If you’re already trying to plan your next big Android upgrade, Samsung might be about to make your decision both more interesting and more complicated.
According to a new report out of South Korea, the Galaxy S27 series isn’t just sticking with the usual three-model formula. Samsung is reportedly preparing a fourth option: the Galaxy S27 Pro.
Four Galaxy S27 Models, Not Three
The leak comes from ETNews, a Korean tech outlet, and says Samsung is working on a new model called the Galaxy S27 Pro. If this pans out, the S27 family in early 2027 would look like this:
- Galaxy S27
- Galaxy S27 Plus
- Galaxy S27 Ultra
- Galaxy S27 Pro
That’s one more than the standard trio Samsung has used for years. We’ve seen Samsung experiment before: the Galaxy S25 line is expected to include an extra Galaxy S25 Edge alongside the usual standard, Plus, and Ultra models.
So the idea of Samsung expanding the S lineup isn’t shocking. What’s different this time is the name and where this Pro model is supposed to sit.
Pro vs Ultra: A Near-Twin Without S Pen
The report claims the Galaxy S27 Pro will share a lot of specs and features with the Galaxy S27 Ultra. In other words, this is not a mid-tier S model. It sounds more like an alternate Ultra.
One key difference is already being mentioned: no S Pen support.
For years, the Ultra line has effectively absorbed the old Note audience by keeping S Pen as a defining feature. If the S27 Pro really mirrors the Ultra in most ways but skips S Pen support, it hints at two kinds of top-end users Samsung wants to serve:
- Those who want the Ultra-class hardware and features but don’t care about pen input.
- Those who still see the S Pen as essential and stick to the Ultra.
Right now, that distinction is just theory. We don’t have confirmed numbers, SKUs, or deeper spec splits. But on paper, S27 Pro sounds like Ultra-lite: same tier, one major omission.
Privacy Display: A High-End Feature Reused
The S27 Pro is also rumored to inherit a Privacy Display feature from the Galaxy S26 Ultra. That feature debuted on the S26 Ultra, and now the suggestion is that Samsung will carry it forward to at least one more S27 variant.
Privacy Display points directly at more controlled viewing angles or screen behavior designed to keep content away from prying eyes. If Samsung pushes this down to the Pro model, it’s a sign the company wants to turn it into a recognizable high-end perk rather than a one-off Ultra exclusive.
Paired with Ultra-like specs, that makes S27 Pro sound very close to the top of the stack, S Pen aside. Again, all of this stays in rumor territory, but the pattern here is a more layered flagship strategy, not a simple good-better-best lineup.
Why the “Pro” Name Matters
The naming is almost as interesting as the hardware hints. “Pro” has been deeply associated with Apple’s iPhone lineup for years, and now Samsung is supposedly adopting the same label on a Galaxy S flagship.
If this report is accurate, Samsung is clearly leaning into existing consumer expectations. “Pro” instantly signals “higher tier than base and Plus” to most buyers, and in the premium segment, familiar branding matters.
This wouldn’t be the first time Samsung plays with labels. With the S25 series, it’s reportedly using “Edge” to distinguish a special variant beyond the usual trio. Now “Pro” would serve as another badge, likely for something just shy of, or parallel to, the Ultra.
But this move also carries risk. With S, Plus, Pro, and Ultra, the naming ladder gets busy. If Samsung doesn’t clearly define what each step offers, shoppers will be stuck decoding labels instead of comparing features.
We’ve Heard “Pro” Rumors Before
This isn’t the first time a Galaxy S Pro model has floated through the rumor mill. The Galaxy S26 line was previously rumored to include a Pro variant as well. In the end, Samsung only launched three models: Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26 Plus, and Galaxy S26 Ultra.
That history should keep expectations in check. Samsung has clearly explored a Pro concept internally before, and for the S26 generation it didn’t make the cut. Plans can change late in the cycle, especially when it comes to naming and portfolio complexity.
So while the S27 Pro sounds plausible given Samsung’s push into more variants with the S25 Edge, nothing is confirmed. Until Samsung actually takes the stage and shows four devices, this remains a roadmap possibility, not a guarantee.
What This Means for Buyers (If It’s Real)
If the S27 Pro does launch, the S27 lineup could look like this from a buyer’s perspective:
- Galaxy S27: the baseline flagship for people who want a compact or more affordable option.
- Galaxy S27 Plus: a larger, slightly better-specced version of the base model.
- Galaxy S27 Pro: Ultra-class specs and features, no S Pen, with Privacy Display and other high-end touches.
- Galaxy S27 Ultra: everything the Pro offers, plus S Pen support as the defining extra.
That’s a lot of choice. Some will appreciate the granular options; others will see it as artificial segmentation.
The cautiously optimistic view: Samsung is trying to give power users more fitting options instead of forcing S Pen onto everyone at the top tier. The skeptical view: Samsung is slicing the flagship stack into smaller pieces to nudge you up the price ladder.
We can’t judge which version is true without real specs, pricing, and regional availability. For now, all we know is the rough positioning and one defining absence: no S Pen on the Pro.
Timeline and Reality Check
The Galaxy S27 launch is expected in early 2027. Between now and then, Samsung could scrap, rename, or rework any planned variant.
Samsung hasn’t confirmed anything about an S27 Pro. All current talk comes from an industry report cited by KompasTekno, which in turn references ETNews and GSM Arena. Until Samsung speaks publicly, this is firmly in rumor territory.
Still, seeing consistent chatter around a fourth flagship model, especially after the S25 Edge experiment, suggests Samsung is actively rethinking how many high-end phones it wants to push each cycle.
If Samsung manages to:
- Keep the lineup understandable,
- Avoid overlapping models that feel redundant, and
- Clearly justify the Pro vs Ultra split beyond just the S Pen,
then the S27 Pro could be a useful option, not just branding noise.
For now, keep your expectations measured and your wallet closed. There’s a long way to go before we know whether the Galaxy S27 Pro is a smart expansion of the Galaxy S family or just another label chasing the “Pro” trend.
